BRAMPTON, Ont. (May 9) — All roads in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men’s basketball will run towards Brampton in the 2013-14 season, as the Sheridan College Athletics and Recreation Department proudly announced today that they will host the 2014 OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. “Our staff has a wealth of experience in hosting high-calibre events, so we’re looking forward to putting on a great championship for the OCAA community,” Sheridan athletic director Jim Flack said. “We have an extraordinary home base here and we know that we will have a great showing of support for all of the student-athletes that … Read more…

LONDON, Ont. (May 1) — It only happens once every two years, but the most recent Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) Hall of Fame Ceremony had a distinct Sheridan theme, with six former Bruins being honoured with their enshrinement. “This is a very exciting and proud evening for our department and for our school,” Sheridan athletic director Jim Flack said. “I’m happy for all of the individuals that have been enshrined here, but it’s also indicative of what the spirit of our institution has been throughout the decades. All of the athletes here were loyal Bruins on the court, field … Read more…

BRAMPTON, Ont. (April 11) — For the first time in several decades, there were eight teams represented at the 44th annual Sheridan Bruins Athletic Banquet as the men’s and women’s rugby teams joined their siblings from the basketball, soccer and volleyball teams. “This is always a very special evening,” athletic director Jim Flack said. “The way we started this night off, seeing just a huge group of student-athletes walk up to the stage as OCAA All-Academic winners, was tremendous. All of them have competed so hard on their respective fields and courts, and I take great joy in seeing that … Read more…

Bruins put hearts on the line, but fall to Langara in OT of bronze game

mbb_mar16

STE. ANNE DE BELLEVUE, Que. (March 16) — At its core, the game of basketball is one with a finite outcome — when the clock hits triple zeros, the scoreboard will dictate whether you have your hand raised in victory or not. In that sense, the Sheridan Bruins men’s basketball team (33-12, 21-2 OCAA) did not achieve what they set out to, as they were unable to secure the bronze medal after a 99-93 overtime loss to Langara. What they did do though, was pour nearly five months worth of heart and soul onto the floor at John Abbott College in … Read more…

After battling back from 18-points down, Bruins lose heartbreaker in national semi final

mbb_mar15

STE. ANNE DE BELLEVUE, Que. (March 15) — There was a point in the second half — with the score and time against them, staring at an 18-point deficit — when many teams would have folded up shop and thrown in the towel. It speaks to the ability of the players, the brilliance of the coaches and the character of the entire Sheridan Bruins men’s basketball team (32-11, 21-2 OCAA) that over the course of four minutes and 10 seconds that lead had been chopped down to just one, heading into the final frame. But despite the white-knuckle drama, the gritty tenacity … Read more…
