Six Bruins inducted into OCAA Hall of Fame

OCAAHof

LONDON, Ont. (May 1) — It only happens once every two years, but the most recent Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) Hall of Fame Ceremony had a distinct Sheridan theme, with six former Bruins being honoured with their enshrinement. “This is a very exciting and proud evening for our department and for our school,” Sheridan athletic director Jim Flack said. “I’m happy for all of the individuals that have been enshrined here, but it’s also indicative of what the spirit of our institution has been throughout the decades. All of the athletes here were loyal Bruins on the court, field … Read more…

BRAMPTON, Ont. (April 11) — For the first time in several decades, there were eight teams represented at the 44th annual Sheridan Bruins Athletic Banquet as the men’s and women’s rugby teams joined their siblings from the basketball, soccer and volleyball teams. “This is always a very special evening,” athletic director Jim Flack said. “The way we started this night off, seeing just a huge group of student-athletes walk up to the stage as OCAA All-Academic winners, was tremendous. All of them have competed so hard on their respective fields and courts, and I take great joy in seeing that … Read more…

VAUGHAN, Ont. (March 22) — No matter what the sport, if there is head-to-head competition between two teams, the one that can dictate how and where the game is played, is most likely to find success. In the case of the Sheridan Bruins men’s soccer team, they found a style that worked for them — monopolizing control of the ball, waiting for their opposition to give them openings and then attacking — and they emerge from their OCAA indoor season as champions, defeating Seneca 1-0 in the semi final and Humber 3-0 in the championship game. “Today we came out … Read more…

Second half rally against Conestoga secures Pool C for Bruins

VAUGHAN, Ont. (March 6) — With their spot in the OCAA Championship already secured, the Sheridan Bruins men’s soccer team had a few tepid moments in their final group game against Conestoga, but ultimately overcame them to post a 3-0 record and win Pool C. “We played well. We did a good job of keeping possession, but teams sat back against us, so we really needed to have a precise approach to score goals,” head coach Andrew Seuradge said. “The last game certainly wasn’t a poor game — we got the result — but we were a little frustrated at … Read more…

Trio of goals in final 11 minutes gives Bruins Bronze

ANCASTER, Ont. (October 27) — It wasn’t the colour they were hoping for, but the Sheridan Bruins men’s soccer team (7-3-2 OCAA) efforts still produced a medal, after three goals in a five-minute stretch gave them a 4-2 bronze victory over St. Clair. “I don’t think we played anywhere near as well as we played yesterday in the semi finals — a little sloppy in defence, a little sloppy in the midfield — but we picked it up and got the result,” head coach Andrew Seuaradge said. After David Velastegui was fouled just outside the area, Manny Morgado took the … Read more…
