Sarah Cuoto, Michael Selkridge named Athletes of the Year

banquet-winners

BRAMPTON, Ont. (April 11) — For the first time in several decades, there were eight teams represented at the 44th annual Sheridan Bruins Athletic Banquet as the men’s and women’s rugby teams joined their siblings from the basketball, soccer and volleyball teams. “This is always a very special evening,” athletic director Jim Flack said. “The way we started this night off, seeing just a huge group of student-athletes walk up to the stage as OCAA All-Academic winners, was tremendous. All of them have competed so hard on their respective fields and courts, and I take great joy in seeing that … Read more…

Loss to Mohawk ends season for Lady Bruins

HAMILTON, Ont. (February 20) — It would be a two-step process if the Sheridan Bruins women’s basketball team (10-16, 7-11 OCAA) were to qualify, needing to win on the road and hope for a Niagara loss. Ultimately neither side worked out in their favour, as their season will end with a 74-63 loss to Mohawk. “It’s a disappointing end to a very challenging season, but I’m very proud of our girls and how hard everybody fought,” head coach Willie Delas said. “We fought right to the very end and never gave up.” With their season hanging on by a thread, the Lady … Read more…

After weekend split, playoff hopes of Lady Bruins flickering

BRAMPTON, Ont. (February 17) — Barring a start-to-finish undefeated run, there comes a point in every season for every team where placement in the standings is determined, at least in part, by the actions of others. Such is now the case for the Sheridan Bruins women’s basketball team (10-15, 7-10 OCAA) as, after a weekend split — an 84-68 win over Lambton, followed by a 95-72 loss to St. Clair — their only path to the playoffs is by wining their final game and getting help along the way. “I’m really proud of the way these girls continue to give … Read more…

Loss to Niagara pushes Lady Bruins to the brink

WELLAND, Ont. (February 9) — There is certainly no good time in an 18-game season to see yourself stumble through a three-game losing streak, but for the Sheridan Bruins women’s basketball team (9-14, 6-9 OCAA) it just happened to come right in the middle of a playoff push. Now, after their latest setback — an 82-56 defeat at the hands of Niagara — they find themselves in the unenviable position of needing to win out and get help along the way, in order to have a playoff seat when the regular season music turns off. “As much as this is … Read more…
