2nd feature for this week for Bruins Black Excellence goes to Louis Moore!
Louis played 4 seasons on the Men's Basketball team earned himself Athlete of the Year, All Canadian & a 3-time OCAA All-Star! While shinning on the court, Louis graduated from the Electronics Engineering Technology program. His success continued after leaving the Bruins, as he is now the Operations Supervisor for Roots Canada & the Author of his new book "Verbul's Notes".
One of the many lessons Louis learned as a Bruin and transferred into his everyday career is being a great leader is full circle and you must be able to be led from other great leaders.
"My passion for basketball transformed into a love for writing; and that drive I had as a child rekindled. 8 years in the making, but finally Verbul's Notes was published on Amazon (February 7th, 2021). Like most students, I was still unsure of what field I wanted to work in. The first program I took was Youth and Community Service. I thought I could give back by helping youths who had rough upbringing like myself but were not as fortunate to find an avenue to focus their energy before mischief found them. Year 3, I switched programs to Electronic Engineering Technology. I loved problem solving and manipulating technology to produce a purely logical mechanical mechanism. I liked it so much I completed the 3-year course in 2. Unfortunately getting into the field after I graduate was very difficult, and I ended up using all the skills I acquired to get into supply chain management role.
My years of playing varsity molded me into a leader and as the captain of the team, I always had to remember that I was always a leader; on and off the court. I lead by example by showing my teammates I could excel on and in the classroom. I learned how to have the tough conversations with my teammates. I learned how to motivate through emotion when logic wasn't the answer. Most importantly I learned I couldn't win on my own and to be good leader, is knowing when to be led. I transferred theses skills into my current role as an Operation Supervisor."
